the cause: what is selective mutism?
Selective Mutism is a severe anxiety disorder that inhibits a child's ability to speak in uncomfortable situations, environments, or with certain people. This is different than shyness. It is a physiological stress response and is not a conscious choice. Selective Mutism is often misdiagnosed, mistreated and can lead to developmental, learning, mental health, and safety issues.
